Blue Ridge National Park

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a linear park that extends about 470 miles from The Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina, and run along the ridges of the Blue Ridge mountain range. There are 8 campgrounds in the parkway. It has a visitor center near mile marker 384, and a folk art center near mile marker 382. Therer are 280 scenic overlooks and hundreds of miles of hiking trails To better enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area, tours are available that will relieve you of doing the driving. There are many access point to reach the parkway including U.S. 250,60,220,58,52,21,70,25, 23,74,19, and 441.


  • The Otter Creek campground is located at the Blue Ridge Parkway's lowest elevation which is about 650 feet above sea level. There are several hiking trails in the area while enjoying the mountain creek atmoshere. With plenty of trees in several of the campsites, you will have plenty of shaded areas.

  • The Peaks of Otter campground is located at the base of two mountains in the rolling hills of Virginia. For those looking to do some fishing in the camping area, there is Abbot Lake. Hiking is also available through mountain trails or within lakeside areas.

  • The Doughton Park campground is located within a landscape of mountainous terrain and open meadows. There are 30 miles of hiking trails in the area, including the Bluff Mountain Trail, Cedar Ridge Trail, Grassy Gap Fire Road, Flat Rock Ridge Trail, Basin Cove Creek Trail, Bluff Ridge Primitive Trail, and the Fodder Stack Trail.

  • The Julian Price campground is located near Price Lake which is surrounded by forest and where fishing, canoe rentals, and a dock is provided where non-motorized boats can be used. Hiking is available along the lakes edge with added trails such as Boone Fork, Green Knob, and Tanawha. A scenic waterfall can also be enjoyed by hiking through the Cascades Trail.

  • The Mt Pisgah campgroun is located in the mountains of western North Carolina. It lays in the south end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campground has access to several hiking trails.
